ABOUT

Mixing music and record making is an exploration of sonic geography. Within the stereo field, music creates space and dimension—near and far—offering a landscape for vast, cinematic imagination.

Scenic Burrows was originally named for the underground recording studio beneath the home of producer and film composer John Morgan Askew. With a single, small window peering up into the dark Pacific Northwest winter skies, Scenic Burrows became a place to mix, to create, and to reflect on the world outside.

Now in 2025, Scenic Burrows has evolved into a creative and sonic hub for record makers and film composers. Located just across the bridges from Portland in Vancouver, Washington, the facility features three versatile recording spaces that can function independently or seamlessly connect for larger projects. Designed with flexibility in mind, the space can accommodate live recordings, film previews, orchestral sessions, and even intimate performances or group events.

Scenic Burrows has a kitchen with dining area and lounge, a backyard patio and private garden and covered area, and, available by request, is the vintage 1949 Spartan trailer equipped with a small studio for writing, recording and playback, as well as a peaceful sleeping area for naps or overnights.
